Proposal for my re- write
Original: Great Expectations written by Charles Dickens
My Plan
Narrator: Mostly Estella (first-person) but partly Havisham
Time: The early twentieth century.
Setting: England & Korea
The story begins with a scene of Havisham’s funeral where Estella encounters a few people, whose complicated relationships with one another are revealed through looking back……
In this story, I’d like to deal with issues of gender, race superiority and social hierarchy through Estella’s point of view – her mysterious background will gradually be unveiled. In that process, also orientalism - “a Western style for dominating, restructuring, and having authority over the orient” (text book, p.88) will be focused on, as I twist the role of Pip.

Grace,
I am excited to read your final product as i know you are a great writer and writting is a passion for you. Will you be including any of your cool artwork?
I also think it will be neat to read a de-constructed view of Korea from your viewpoint, a great advantage you have over us pakehas.
Hi, Grace
(Sorry, it was me. I posted wrong one and removed it.)
You looked have a clear idea about the rewriting, and the points. You told writing is a painful work, but it would be a sweet pain waiting till the story has fully grown inside you. I hope it goes well!
Hi Grace
I'm really looking forward to reading your work. Is Estella going to meet a Korean man? I hope so, as that will be interesting. I hope she gets knocked off her high horse, as her character annoyed me in Great Expectations! As Rachel said, you are a talented writer so go for it.
Hi Grace
I have not read Great Expectations but from the background info you have given it sounds very interesting and maybe after reading your re-write I might read the whole book,
Cant wait to see your re-write tho, sounds like you are a great writer so im sure it will be brilliant
goodluck
Hi Grace :)
Good luck with your work! I have read his novel, cant remember what it was called. It was a story about a mean old guy who travel the past with ghosts? or something. Anyway, lookin forward to see your work :D

I'm very interested in your purposes that you want to deal with issues of gender, race superiority and social hierarchy through Estella’s point of view.
